What is Trauma-Informed Yoga
Trauma-informed yoga offers a gentle, compassionate, and supportive space that prioritises both emotional and physical safety at every stage of the practice. Unlike many traditional yoga classes, the focus here is not on perfecting postures or achieving a particular shape with the body. Instead, the emphasis is on choice, agency, and cultivating a deeper awareness of how your body feels in the moment.
This approach recognises that each participant’s experience is unique, and there is no “right” or “wrong” way to engage. Movements are offered as invitations rather than instructions, and you are always encouraged to listen to your body’s signals, moving in ways that feel safe and honouring your own personal boundaries.
No prior yoga experience is needed, and there are no expectations about flexibility, strength, or familiarity with yoga. All bodies and all levels of experience are welcome. To maintain a sense of safety, there will be no physical touch or hands-on adjustments from the facilitator. You are welcome to wear whatever clothing feels most comfortable for you, whether that’s typical exercise attire or something softer and more relaxed.
Classes are organised into six-week blocks and take place within a closed group setting. Each group is limited to no more than six participants, allowing time for connection and creating an intimate, consistent, and supportive environment. The smaller group size also helps foster trust, as you will be practising alongside the same people each week. Yoga therapy is offered on a individual basis and can be delivered online or in person.
This style of yoga is designed to support regulation of the nervous system—helping the body gradually shift away from a constant state of stress or alertness toward a greater sense of balance and calm. Through mindful movement, gentle breath practices, and present-moment awareness, participants can explore safe reconnection with their bodies and internal experiences. Over time, this process can help nurture a sense of empowerment, stability, and inner resilience.
Trauma-informed yoga is not about pushing limits; it’s about creating space to be exactly where you are. It offers a steady, respectful environment for personal healing, where choice is celebrated, safety is prioritised, and each person’s journey is valued.
